I had my vote to this one, I have a Mercalli 4 string and it's a fantastic bass. P pickup only is bigger and better sound than my P, dial in a bit of bridge pup and it opens up other possibilities

I looks like a lot of people have a much wider definition of "P-bass" than me! But keep them coming! Lots of cool basses in this thread, even though I probably wouldn't call half of them a "P-bass".
My favorite non Fender p bass is my highly modified Bacchus Craft Series MIJ.
Neck : modern p style from Bacchus
Body : Warmoth alder of 4.7 pounds
Pickups : Lindy Fralins 5% overwound
Strings : EB cobalt flats
A real pleasure to play with a very versatile sound that suits many styles of music.

I haven't read all the responses. But just based on the title, did anyone respond with something to the effect of, "Well, technically all fretted basses are precision basses since they were Leo's answer to the upright bass..."?

I had one of these for years; first REAL bass I ever bought. Hid it under the bed because I didn't want my parents to know how much I paid for it. The reversed pickups gave it a unique sound. Still miss it.
My '79 Greco Mercury with flats does the trick, has a HOT pickup.

Recently acquired MIJ BB300. Liking it better than every Squier CV I tried. Strung with Dunlop SBN after this pic.
I know it's a P/J, but I hate P-basses...but I've tried this one, & it is calling my name pretty hard.

that's my sweet spot, like 75/25 blend? not sure of the ratio but blend in a little bridge pickup and it's money
