What's your favourite Fuzz , and why?

The choices are endless, but my current favorite is the Mooer Triangle Buff. Keeps the low end and has a rather nice sound IMO.

Someone needs to do a poll of the common/fave 20 to 50 fuzz pedals and leave it sticky'd at the top of the forum > this fuzzy question is pretty common.
I like IE Oxide, W&C TFR, TAFM, Tym Red Mudd.

My favorite is the Green Muff I made. Second is probably the Grey Stache. I really wanna try a B:Assmaster.

All of these are right.

TAFM.

At low gain, its a fantastic overdrive. At high gain, its an edgy fuzzy beast. Lots of sounds in-between, and great control over them...there is almost nothing that the TAFM can't cover. Heck, use just the clean blend on its own even and use it as a boost pedal if you want. Plus, with the gate option on the second switch, its two pedals in one, which is how I use mine. I've got the "base" sound set as a lower gain slightly fuzzy overdrive (which sounds amazing), and then when I need full on raunchy fuzz I kick on the gate switch. I honestly cannot justify buying any other dirt pedals given how well this one works and how flexible it is. I've not even covered yet the quality of service and support from smallsound/big sounds.

TAFM. It's the choice of champions!

I cant decide yet but my first fuzz will be

1) Black Arts Pharaoh Fuzz.
2) Smallsound Bigsound Buzz.
3) Malekko B:Ass Master.

one of those is the one I'm afraid i will end up with a collection of fuzzes.

Amptweaker Bass Tight Fuzz, best fuzz I ever played! Extremely versatile: 60's or 70's fuzz switch, germanium or silicon, edge or smooth, a knob to roll how ever much of your dry signal in, & a very useful tight knob that allows you to tighten up the fuzz. When you are playing by yourself or at lower volumes it might sound better to have the fuzz looser, but when you are cranked up with an full band I find you cut through better when you tighten it up a bit. Sound is big, full & mean!

Fuzzrocious Grey Stache. I ordered a custom 2 Grey Staches in one box (2 staches 1 box) and I'v loved that thing. It comes with quite a few different options when you order it (choice of clipping diodes, ability to switch between clipping diodes, self-oscillation modification, custom paint job etc.)

BAT Pharaoh and Wren & Cuff TFR. Although the darkhlass duality sounds brutal through the aguilar tone hammer!

fuzzrocious darkest driving. Low gain but so many distortion options and it just sounds so awesome. no low end or low mid loss

I really don't have a favorite. All of them are cool in their own way. I've got 3 now and have been through about 9 before I got the ones I've got, and there are several I'd like to try that I haven't, and some are pretty big hitters, so I am in no way any sort of comprehensive source on fuzzes because I'm vainly trying to escape the rabbit hole. I know I'm going to get sucked in, but I'm fighting it!

I have an MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe, a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine, and a Duncan Tweak Fuzz, which I love on guitar but find it a little light in the lows for bass. I dig both the BFD and TAFM, and they are so different from each other that it's hard to pick a favorite. BFD's smoother and bassier and a little more polite in the mids, and the TAFM has raging mids but I wouldn't mind it a little brighter and bassier. To be fair, though, mine is an old TAFM and I don't know if the circuit's been updated lately.

The only one I have at this point is an unpleasant surprise. I like it A LOT but would now like one with a slightly different voice.
as you say; there is just so much out there and this thread has shed a lot of light already on few pedals i did not have on the radar thus far.

I've had few fuzzes and the one I like most is the BFD. I'm finding that dry/wet knobs combo quite effective at providing the tone I'm looking for. Not the wildest fuzz around, but sounds great and fits perfectly for what I need right now.

I am about to purchase a Big Muff Pi Fuzz deluxe. It's affordable and all my research says it's a good fuzz for me =)

But if you want some real premium fuzz, I recommend you checking out the Fuzzrocious pedals. It's a small company but they make some evil sounding fuzz!

How is the low end retention?

I just built a Leeds Fuzz and am surprised at how much low end it retains. I was going to make a whole post on it, because I made it with intentions of giving it to a guitar player friend but ended up loving it too much on my bass to let it go. It's a nice fuzz complement to my Musket. On the scoop setting it's a massive, wall-shaking sound. Granted, every bit of the signal is clipped, so in some dense mixes it could get a bit lost. I've found it really depends on your bass and rig, though.

What can you afford?
Some of the Devi Evers are very cool, but the only one I know with a clean blend control is the Beautiful Disaster at $200.
Malekko Diabolik is a smaller, simpler version of the B:assmaster, VERY loud and aggressive - $150.
The Way Huge Swollen Pickle Mk II isn't half bad - no clean blend, but versatile, and rather better sounding than the EHX Bass Big Muff (the cheapest of all, at about $80 brand new). SP II's can often be bought for about $50-75 from guitarists who tried them out & got scared.
Wren & Cuff's Pickle Pie B & Tall Font Russian have good reps & $200 price tags. From there on the going gets steep, from the Darkglass Duality & Small Sound/Big Sound Team Awesome Fuzz Machine ("TAFM") in the $250 range to the Spaceman Sputnik at $600+.

my faves are dBA's Fuzz War and 3leaf Audio You're Doom ... a close 3rd would be a Prescription Electronics Depth Charge

IMO, they have the most personality, and they change a bit when you pair them with other pedals and stuff

So far my favorite fuzz is the BYOC Leeds fuzz I built.. which is a clone of a Univox Superfuzz.

Top jacks/power and it sounds really mean.. I cant help but like that.

Its funny today at work I was casually browsing my local craigslist and came across someone selling this. Had never heard of it so tried to look up some YouTube vids and ofcourse no bass demos. At home now at night stumble on this thread and theres that Leeds Fuzz again sparking my interest. Do you guys happen to have any bass samples?

I keep returning to the Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian, just love the huge bassy tones I get from it. Next on my list would be the Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B, then Darkglass Duality. All very tasty.

I don't. It seems simple to just record a quick sample, but it's actually a fair amount of work/time. Plus I'm not a very good noodler. That's on the list for 2015, though, to get set up better for that kind of thing.
