What's your go-to workout music?

I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.

Hey, All--

Every now and then, I like to make sure my hands are in good playing shape. My plucking hand stays strong from going through Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" album, non-stop. My fretting hand gets a workout from any Dream Theater tune, but specifically, "6:00" (of which I still haven't taken the time to fully learn, but it's still enough).

What do you play through to make sure your hands and fingers are up to snuff?

Play alongs... Holy Rollin' shout choruses, fast paced walking lines, Edgar Winter & the White Trash Roadwork live from the Apollo release from early 70's with Randall Cobb seriously kickin' it.

There's also a book by Carl Culpepper. It's for guitar and it's called 101 terrifying technique for guitar and it's a lot of alternating " picking" intervals, scales runs.... easily transferable to the electric bass and they're good exercises.

That's about it. There's some hand specific physical therapy exercises you can also do to warm your hands up and limber them prior to throwin' down.

I never really needed serious chops, so I stopped practicing those long ago. But every now and then I put on the playback to Hysteria by Muse and my plucking hand very reliably starts falling apart by the time the first chorus comes around. I don't know if that is good or bad. But anyway, then I promise myself that I would work on that and then I don't.
