I have a pretty rational (in my mind) fear of playing any instrument in front of someone else, even my own kin. (except for the bongos)
I thought I'd gotten over it, but then the one person outside the family that heard me "perform" later said that I have no sense of rhythm or pitch perception![]()
That can easily be confirmed or dismissed by recording yourself playing with a song, then listening to it. And if you are having issues, it's not the end of the world. My beautiful fiancée loves to sing, but is tone deaf. I have very good pitch, but it doesn't bother me one bit. She is having fun and doing what she loves. She knows it but sings anyway. Point is, she isn't a professional singer so who cares.
I can't play like victor Wooten, nor do I have the impeccable intonation that Jaco has. I still play a fretless and slap on a bass a little. I know I'll never be as good as them, but I enjoy playing.
KBD,
Bullocks to the haters!
You keep playing in your wonderfully imperfect way, just as we all do.

. I'm okay with killing them,it's the idea of one coming down from the ceiling when I'm sleeping that concerns me.
