I recently put AD in Craigslist looking for band and was perplexed by groups that sent me song list littered with Dead Horse Songs. Do people still want to hear them?

IME locally you'll still hear that old crap in biker bars (I ride with a club so they're obligatory) where the clientele is mostly old farts. At the same time, around here most bands seem to be in at least their 40s and often far older. And I think often they stick to what they know. Cuuuuuuuuzzzzz ....

Outside of that I have seen some awesome local bands playing everything from metal (Nephylimbass) to 70s and 80s funk and pop. The guys (old farts) I'm back on bass with now (was lead guitar for 8 yrs) are playing lots of AIC, Coll Soul, etc so its easier to tolerate the ZZ Top and Skynyrd. And they're gonna add some Volbeat and Buckcherry or they're gonna need a new bass player. Lol.

Don't get me wrong, I frigging LEARNED to play bass by listening closely to Tommy Shannon and Leon Wilkinson and I have a real appreciation for their talent. But for the love of God ... there has been some excellent music made since 1978. But I often feel most old fart bands (that are quickly becoming the only kind) are blissfully unaware of this fact.

I must be a strange old bastard. I'd rather listen to and or play Saliva or DKM than that 70s stuff I've been playing in clubs since I was 14.

All this talk about fret numbers has got me wondering what people are playing. Sorry if this pole has been done before. Might be interesting if you stated where you lived too as culture is probably part of it. :)
Hmmm...play all kinds of stuff depending upon who I am playing with. I've played with a 5pc. group for a few years and now we're a 4 pc. group - bass, guitar, keys, and drums. Keys player is a woman with a very nice voice and we do quite of few things that she sings. Guitar player is the BL and sings most of the stuff, primarily 70's 80's, and 90's rock though we do some newer things too. I do some of the old stuff like Cream's Sunshine of your Love, Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, some Moody Blues, some Pink Floyd, some Eagles, some Green Day too. And I found myself singing four AC/DC songs. Also some Alice in Chains and (how's that for a strange combination). Pretty wide variety of Music. Also play in a Blues/Rock trio. I sing most of the rock stuff and some of the blues. The drummer and guitarist sing most of the blues that we do.

I was born and raised in CA but have lived in OR, Vermont, Virginia, and now in Washington state. Back in the early 70's I toured with a nightclub group through out the Pacific, West, and Mid-Western US. Did that for three years playing 5-nights a week, 50-weeks a year. And yes, that was pretty normal thing for a successful group who was willing to tour. Made good money and had a great time.

The cover band I am currently in (although we haven’t done anything since March) started as a country band then changed to 90’s rock/alternative/Punk then seemed to settle on Pop punk. But we play whatever they ask us to at whatever gig we get paid to do LOL. It’s nice to be able to play and enjoy different genres.

Polls that have percentages higher than 100% are tight!

Funk/Hip Hop????? is this a typo? are you kidding?
I love Funk and Hate Hip Hop...
Do you know about Funk?

Hate is not a family value.

However, the bass in those two is absolutely different!

I went to a Whiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg concert. No guitars at all, and a bass player in only one group, who made some sub-bass rumbles as far as I could tell. I don’t know quite what makes hip hop tick but they sure turned a lot of formulas inside-out.
