Rock, Blues, Metal, and as of late a little Country. I’ve always played classic/hard rock and metal but of late I’ve been playing with a Southern Rock (right up my alley) and Modern Country band. Sometimes it’s nice to work outside your comfort zone. I really still don’t listen to country music at all. Never have, but now I have to learn the bass lines for some covers and write them for our originals and that’s always fun.

Wait, what do these %’s represent?
My intention, after a couple of threads about fret numbers, was to see how many people played music that, traditionally, stayed below the 12th fret. Hence my small number of genres. There are a lot more blues players than I was expecting and fewer jazz fusion players. I know you can't generalise too much but there are trends attached to particular styles. Fender and many other companies probably have these figures and know who to build for to make the biggest profit.

The poll is actually pretty interesting. Pretty broad spectrum of tastes here. I like polls.

Hey ... we need a poll that includes:

- If I ever have to play 'Sweet Home Alabama' again I'm going to vomit

- If I ever have to play bass behind another guitarist who wanks endlessly on Hendrix and SRV someone is gonna die

- If I ever play bass where the keyboard player doubles the juicey bass lines on awesome 70s funk songs I'm going to poke him in eye with pointy headstock of my Jackson Concert XV

For the record, when I am the lead guitarist I actually cut some of the SRV solos short and I refuse to play Hendrix. Period. That crap bores me even if I'm the wanker.

Hey some of those juicy '70's bass lines were originally done on keys! "Chameleon", anyone?
Our bass player had a Black Eagle - the commensurate funk bass (so I'm told). Nicely carved/curved headstock.

Oh yeah - I play all the frets I can get! right now I have only 21. 88 frets would probably be too many...

I put all of the above....

interesting to see so many (40% at this time of posting) choosing blues. You would think this poll was taken of guitarists!

I sat in as house bassist in a local blues club a couple of times in the summer. Not knowing anything that was going to be played was a nice challenge and it's a quick education that blues isn't all 12 bars and the bass lines that work best are closer to jazz. There were a fair number of guitar solos though.
