The poll is actually pretty interesting. Pretty broad spectrum of tastes here. I like polls.

Hey ... we need a poll that includes:

- If I ever have to play 'Sweet Home Alabama' again I'm going to vomit

- If I ever have to play bass behind another guitarist who wanks endlessly on Hendrix and SRV someone is gonna die

- If I ever play bass where the keyboard player doubles the juicey bass lines on awesome 70s funk songs I'm going to poke him in eye with pointy headstock of my Jackson Concert XV

For the record, when I am the lead guitarist I actually cut some of the SRV solos short and I refuse to play Hendrix. Period. That crap bores me even if I'm the wanker.

A recent band I was working with had more than a few what I call 'Dead Horse Songs' on their Song list. I suggested we replace Sweet Home Alabama with another song and they said 'do you know Mustang Sally':)

I recently put AD in Craigslist looking for band and was perplexed by groups that sent me song list littered with Dead Horse Songs. Do people still want to hear them?

I don't know what the genre is called but I really like whatever style it is that combines old school jazz with modern chill/lounge music. The intro to the Prime TV Show "Bosch" is a good example.
Yeah I know. Everytime I tell people I like electronic music they think of the crappy music they play in clubs.

Orbital, Underworld, Brian Eno. Those are my jams.

I just discovered this awesome track. It's electronica, but there's a real bass in there.

My band describes our genre as Americana/Jazz/Art-Rock.

As far as what I listen to, it's a much broader range including the above but also classical, blues, pop, prog-rock, soul, reggae, jam, folk, metal, world music, etc., etc. I have not been able to develop a taste for rap/hip-hop, but I can find things to appreciate and enjoy in just about any other genre. We're so fortunate to be alive at a time when so much great and varied music is available. Earlier today I was watching an awesome concert by Nightwish, which I would describe as Wagnerian-prog-pop-metal.

Yes they do. And if you play House of Pain in a bar full of college kids every white boy will get up and start rapping.

We should all be so lucky as to pen a song so durable.

good to see rock and blues leading the pack, my tastes always revolve around Jack Bruce and Felix Pappalardi or their '60s / '70s contemporaries but with the tragic news that Leslie is on life support it makes celebrating the holidays a bit tougher. hoping for a Christmas miracle.

I sat in as house bassist in a local blues club a couple of times in the summer. Not knowing anything that was going to be played was a nice challenge and it's a quick education that blues isn't all 12 bars and the bass lines that work best are closer to jazz. There were a fair number of guitar solos though.
I’ve done many a gig playing blues - yes it is often more than 12 bars; jazz style playing can have its place In blues, but not always; and Yup. Plenty of guitar solos.

All this talk about fret numbers has got me wondering what people are playing. Sorry if this pole has been done before. Might be interesting if you stated where you lived too as culture is probably part of it. :)
My originals band bounces between hard rock and metal. But I also enjoy playIng acoustic rock covers, I’m a big fan of ambient music, and was previously in a project that played everything from jazz to big band and swing type stuff. First instrument was trumpet and I’m also a big fan of both classical music and modern movie score stuff ranging from John Williams to Hans Zimmer.

I do actually use most of the neck the way I play. I’m a big fan of players like Janek Gwizdala and I also played in a single guitar band for many years and tried to make it as musical as possible. I think a lot of me playing high comes from my background on trumpet also. The style I developed has just stuck with me over the years. It’s not for every band but I feel like my style brings originality to all the bands I’ve been a part of, including my current band. Here’s an example of a line from one of my old bands songs where I’m droning on an open A while playing melodic stuff on the d and g string WAY up the neck

I depends...I've always liked rock and blues. I love the real soul and R&B of the old days, not this new crap claiming to be soul or R&B. I like country of the 60's and before with some 70's sprinkled in. As far as pop, I liked 60's pop radio I don't like the new stuff.

I think Lady Gaga is a great talent but I know none of her songs. I like Miley's covers. Some of Sheeran is ok as well. But damn that' about it for me.

in the bands I've been in most recently one we did a whole set of grateful dead and another set or two of mixed covers..mostly rock...

the other one I play in we do all classic rock..but as for the fret board...I play high whenever possible I think the notes sound better there and thus my 5 string helps in that arena..
