Mine is the Ibanez Axstar AXB1000. Headless, but with a brass weight. Steinberger bridge. Stunning shape. There's a beat up used one in Vegas at Ed Roman Guitars, but I think it's way over priced.

Perhaps I should have said the majority of basses. The majority of basses are not made in left-handed versions. Trust me, I've checked.

This right here, i can find 4 strings and fret less versions but I prefer five strings (I like the necks a million times better and I like having the B string) and theres some others but I played one of these and instantly fell in love but Im broke so I couldnt afford it

Mid-70's Guild JS2 long scale. The design of the original short scale models mimicked the Gibson EB-0/3, but I like the neck better(less baseball bat)and of course, superior pickups. Late in the day of the JS's existence Guild finally woke up to the fact that some players might want a long scale(something Gibson had gotten around to), but not many were made. There were some fretless instruments made as well, but I think that the company was ready to move on to the Rickenbacker-ish B-301. Oh, and please, please, please, none of that hippie carved acorn BS.

Back in the early 80's I needed a new bass and back then I had my eye on a Univox Mosrite copy, but alas it was out of my price range. I still have a fondness for them.

It may not be that hard to get close to what you want...

Wouldn't a "white whale" be a bass you obsessed over to the point it was destructive? One that when encountered could do you more harm than good? I had a "white whale" experience once. I had an obsession with a 5 string Blueburst Matt Pulcinella. I found this bass on Ebay after years of hoping to have Matt build one for me. The whole experience turned into a nightmare. The seller shipped it very poorly. Upon inspection it was clear that all of the hardware had been replaced incorrectly (wood imprints and screw holes showing) and almost every fret was rising off the fingerboard. The bass showed signs of mold damage which led me to think it suffered water/flood damage. None of this was clear from the "like new" description and strategically shot photos in the listing. There were some other build quality issues that turned me off from ever trying to get one made as well. So my "dream" became a nightmare.

This is my Moby: Rick 4002. Had one in white slip through my fingers almost twenty years ago. Could have been mine.

I've owned 3 of Matts basses and one of them was a main bass for longer then any bass I've ever owned. Keep the dream.
