What's your white whale?

Mine was a birth-year Precision, a 1956.
I got it over ten years ago, though.

There are a few basses that I let get away, because they weren't right for what I was playing at the time, that I would like to have back now. But you can't predict the future.

Nowdays, there are unusual basses I'd like to own and I keep an eye out for, but nothing that I just HAVE to have.
Heck, these days, I can't even predict the past! :roflmao:

Silverburst Gibson Explorer bass. I don't even care what it sounds like or feels like. I've never been able to get it out of my head. I almost tried to track down an Epiphone Thunderhorse just to have something similar when I was attempting to learn guitar. When I say, "learn guitar," I of course mean, "jam power chords or single string parts as fast as I can."

OK, at the risk of being a nit picking d**k, I don't think y'all get the concept of the White Whale. It's not something you supremely desire, it's something you are obsessed with finding so you can DESTROY it out of revenge. I'll go hide in a dark corner now ...
I thought it was related to Moby Dick. The search for the white whale ends up being the thing that destroys the seeker. The searcher wants to destroy it, but the obsession to find it is what kills him. I think we're on the same page.

My white whale is probably a custom-made F Bass BN4 with a buckeye burl top, transparent red, gloss finish, black binding, and transparent black finish on the back and sides, ash body, black block inlays in a maple fretboard, P-bass pickup in the neck position and a J-bass pickup in the bridge position, black hardware, and quilted maple headstock with a transparent green gloss finish. There wouldn't be a search, but more of the quest to get the money for it.
