When did people start calling Paul "Macca"?

It's like a pet "scouse" name - Paul is very common and most people know a few, so distinguish them with nicknames!

Like fellow footballers famously call David Beckham "Becks"...

How long has he been getting called Macca? I'd imagine since his first day in school, trust me, I'm a scouser lol

Nobody outside Britain understands the concept of "Scouse" - whereas I've worked with a few scousers, so I can translate!!

When I was growing up in England I was sometimes called Wacca. There's no rhyme or reason to it, but it's quite a common thing I think.

Actually it's Makka. "Mecca" is a Victorian English transliteration and it's a lot closer to "Macca" than "Mecca."
