Do "most" people work the day shift, Monday through Friday? You'd think so based on traffic patterns but I don't know for sure.

I work a late day shift (10-7), Tuesday through Saturday. I went mountain biking yesterday and was surprised by the number of people out enjoying the park. Some of them were college aged and you know flexible those schedules can be but most of them were of working age...or maybe a lot of people just got this whole week off?

Normal hours are M-F 8-5 but some of us have to stay late or work weekends. Lately the shop works 10-12 hrs/day 7 days a week. I make it a point to be off when my daughter is here, in the past I used to have to bring her in.

Traffic patterns... When I visit the city I see the morning and afternoon traffic jams. It's not that way here. #1 most jobs are seasonal part time with odd hours so work traffic is spread out. #2 this is primarily a tourist destination. We get heavy traffic on weekends and summer, when most everyone else is OFF work. The traffic jams leaving the city on Friday afternoon, many of them are headed here. For local traffic, the only time I can see a noticeable difference is when school is not in session for the day and I live 15 miles from any school.

I've worked plenty of day and evening shifts, but I think the majority of the working world keeps bankers hours or similar day shifts that start in the morning and end in the late afternoon. That's PART of why traffic blows the most chunks between 6:30-10am & 3-7pm, & why I try to stay off the roads during those times (+ if you factor in schools and government stuff. You notice how much lighter traffic is on secondary holidays? I LOVE Flag Day! :woot: )

Basically whenever I want to, within reason, and so long as I put 40 or more hours in a week. I usually take two days from home and work sporadically on those days. The other three days, I tend to go in pretty early (and leave early) to miss as much traffic as possible. But, it's not unusual to see code changes from me at 1am, as well as 7am.

Officially 7:50 to 5 weekdays, but in reality I start at 9, stay at work until 6, may need to work from home in the evenings (VPN is evil), put in a few hours here and there on the weekend, and if management demands go to weekend meetings. Nobody discourages working too much around here so that does not help.
