I'm a M-F 8:30-4:30 these days and it just about kills me. I need to nap every day when getting home. When my daughter was younger, the opportunity to do that was rare and I suffered!

If I had my choice, I'd work second shift (3-11, four days a week). I had that schedule for a number of years before settling down and that suited my lifestyle at the time really well!

Do "most" people work the day shift, Monday through Friday? You'd think so based on traffic patterns but I don't know for sure.

I work a late day shift (10-7), Tuesday through Saturday. I went mountain biking yesterday and was surprised by the number of people out enjoying the park. Some of them were college aged and you know flexible those schedules can be but most of them were of working age...or maybe a lot of people just got this whole week off?
Normally 8-5 Mon - Fri, but on call 24/7/365.25 for emergencies or special projects.

When things heat up i work til i’m about to drop, go in and go to bed, then 4~6 hours later i get up and go back to work. I love having a shop handy, but it can also suck at times. Wifey tells me to take less work, but when someone shows me money i just can’t say no. Exceptions are family and friends, i never could charge them so i gave up trying many years ago.

Almost forgot. When i did do a regular job i prefered second or third shift, but a lot of my jobs were exclusivly days. I do better working at night but if i’m toiling for the man i’m pretty much availabe as required.

One week it's Mon-Thurs 8a to 5p and Friday 8a to 1p.
Next week it's Mon, Wed, Thurs 8a to 5p, Tues 8a to 2p and Sat 8a to 4:30p.

Most days I also work my second job until 10pm or so and all day Sunday.

Retired now... I work 10-or-so days a month...and Love it!
No commute to speak of, as I can pick my spots and choose jobs close to home.
The elementary school day starts up at 7:15a here...as a Sub, I’m out the door at 2:30!
Cake!
For the first half of my working life I was on the job at 4:30a and stayed at it tfn.
For the last 18 yrs on the job I went from about 6a until 4 or 5p.

I'm now retired but when I did work it was flexible hours as long as I was present for a defined core time and averaged 37 hours* over a 4 or 5 week period.

I usually got in at 7:30 AM to avoid the traffic (and the queue for the bathroom with 3 kids and a wife all wanting it at the same time).

*If we had a delivery imminent when it was 24/7 until it was out of the door because there were some pretty big penalty clauses for late delivery. One contract had a penalty clause of 1 million GBP per day and my part was the last operation, so no pressure there!

Easing into the 4 day weekend with a light day. Historically we start the day before Thanksgiving normally then it tapers off big time. We usually start offering folks who want to go home early the chance around noon-ish.

I hang for the entire shift so I get full holiday pay :D

I don't like to be funny with my money.

Work is a four letter word. I'm retired since 2009. But for 14 years I commuted by car from the Hartford area to Stamford (1.25 hours), Armonk NY (2-5 hours!) and NYC (3 hours to can't-get-there-today). I was out of bed at 4:30, and on the road by 5:30am. Most nights I'd get home around 8:00 pm. I was fortunate to be able to telecommute as much as I cared to, but we all know that "face time" is important. I also took advantage of public transport when it made sense, but it seldom did except in really inclement weather and I couldn't work from home.

It was tough, but worth it. I retired at age 55 and am doing just what I want to do now. No schedule, no bosses, no long-term projects, no politics, and NO COMMUTE!

I teach college, so schedule is flexible and changes every semester. Actual scheduled time when I need to be somewhere (like in a classroom) is currently M-Th from about 8 am to about noon or 1 pm depending on the day. Sometimes there are department meetings, etc., as well. But apart from that there's prep, grading, meeting students to help with their papers, reading and doing research and stuff like that. That doesn't fall into any particular schedule "at work." If I'm reading about Napoleon in bed at 11 pm because I have a class on the French Revolution next term, that's working too.

I've been on the night shift for the majority of the last 30 years. 11pm-7:30am. Right now I have Saturday and Sunday nights off. I work tons of overtime but work is very good about time off for Friday night gigs. I usually just come to work and finish the shift after the gig. I will say that as I've gotten older (61 now), it's gotten harder to do and tougher on the body.
