That Martin acoustic is really cool! I don't know what those guys were thinking when they did that to that poor Soundgear bass.
The problem is they weren't thinking...period.
I did own a few nice Martins in my younger days as an acoustic guitar player. But I never did do the loop things with the strings.
My first instrument was a Yamaha copy of a martin. It was so worn out from being played for years but it got me into music. Think Willie Nelson's acoustic. Mine was almost as worn. senseless to vote on this. the picture screams 'amateur hour'. at some point people learn this stuff, we hope. this isn't just a bass problem.

Wasn't he just saying his guitar was worn as badly as Nelson's? Not that Nelson played the same Yamaha guitar. I always thought it funny how poorly thought of Martins are in the classical guitar world. And yet this is the most famous of them.

By the way, Willie's guitar has a Baldwin bridge pickup on it, and he uses a Baldwin amp, the kind of which I used as my first bass amp in the early 70s. Willie says that the set up gives him a sound close to Django Reinhardt. And who would argue about that?

Yeah, what's with the loops? You're supposed to let the ends stick out and poke someone's eye out.
The Sound Gear bass is left-handed, isn't it? The grooves on the nut look that way to me. I've seen worse. I expected to see the strings being wrapped on the outside of each tuning post. I saw a 1940s Martin D-28 on the American version of Antiques Roadshow that had all the strings put on from the outside of the posts - I couldn't look at it after I saw that.
I used to play with another acoustic player who did just that. I always made sure to keep my distance from him on stage.
Anyone who has played a Fender guitar with split-shaft tuners would know how to string that bass.
The uniformity of the individual string wraps would suggest a lack of knowledge. They worked at getting each string wound right, they just didn't know what right was.
Which then begs the question, if it works, what is actually wrong with it?

Given what would likely happen if you plucked a few times based on how’s it strung up….at the very least you can confirm it’s “never been played” status
