I've just refused to dive too deep (so far).
I use 3 presets on my Aftershock, after minor tweaking.
Haven't experimented much further, maybe that's saved me.

I know it's not for everyone but I have become so comfortable with my Stomp HX that I am considering a second one so I can have one dedicated to bass and one to guitar, OK and maybe a 3rd for my synth rig.

I think the whole Helix family has probably the friendliest interface. Lots of options, if you want them. If not, "put this pedal here, turn this knob", and you're ready to go!
But, I agree, is not for everyone...

I dreamed for over 40 years about a pedal like the Source Audio C4 synth pedal so I rejoice in the complexity but I also love a simple to control effect like a FuzzFace, Phase45, Dr Q or BassBalls that lets me play it.

Effects are toys and fun tools to me, some times simple is better and others the more complex the better. Sometimes I want that classic simple Small Stone right down the middle other times nothing will do but a full Mutron BiPhase on the Left and a DanElector PsychoFlange on the Right!

The Aftershock allowed me to accurately clone several of my pedals that are near and dear and literally irreplaceable to me and also to create a couple of sounds that were in my head but did not have the skill or finances to have someone circuit bend.
