OkIn all seriousness, this isn't the best forum to talk about God's existence or lack thereof. After all, it's our tone that we are truly concerned with.

This church has lost its way big time. No need to get deep into the Bible here. But if someone were to show up at the front door of that church wearing a Hell's Angels shirt, hungry, and having a bloody lip, the JOB of that church is to wrap arms around him, clean him up and give him food. Beating over the head with a Bible is not on the list of duties.
Very creative idea for a pedal board OP! Cool bass. If you were to show up with that same stuff at my church, the rest of us bass players in rotation would be bugging the crap out of you about how much you like your gear and what settings you use. Come to think of it, one of us has the exact same bass only burst. And my main church rig is an Ashdown Little Bastard. Wonder how your guy would like THAT! Ha!
Again, not going into Sunday School here. But please do me a favor and don't assume all churches are like this. Sorry you had to deal with idiots.
I don't get the objection to your Jag at all. It's a fine looking instrument. Do they expect nothing less than a coffee table bass? Are surf guitars tools of the devil?

Not going to read all the comments...but I see nothing wrong with the bass. The skateboard on the other hand. Nope. Does look a little tacky and unprofessional. Can't see the functionality in that at all and those pedals deserve better. You can slap all that on a (used) pedaltrain and have them on the proper angle.

I'm still hung up on having to dress two or three notches beneath the pastor? this church doesn't sound very warm and inviting or this just must be what it's like behind the curtain the part the congregation doesn't know exists?
If I had to dress three notches below my current pastor, I'd look like a homeless person.
It's not a problem with you gear, it's a problem with people in your church. I've heard numerous stories like that from fellow worship musicians, and I went through some weird situations in church as well. Solution - change a church.
The church I played at was fine with my black and tort Jag and my plain colored t-shirts. That's what I wear every day.
I don't understand why God would care about what we wear. I thought he was more concerned with what is in our hearts. Seems to me he would have provided Adam and Eve with a worthy set of clothes if that were the case.
Mankind has always been getting the laws of society mixed up with the laws of God. Often it seems if your political affiliation doesnt match up to the pastor's you are cast out as well.
I feel that if you don't stand up and question such hypocrisy and you simply abide by it for the sake of not rocking the boat you become a hypocrite yourself.
They might well throw you out of the church and accuse you of all sorts of heresy. But I can hardly see that as a bad thing. Did Jesus not do the same?

I sometimes play in churches, as several of my friends are in church bands, although maybe not as formal as a "worship team". I never stated it, but I think everybody understood that I was not a believer. That's OK, they didn't judge or proselytize to me, and I didn't either. We are all different, and everybody was OK with that.
Hey duh, it's kind of like every other band I've played in. I keep hearing about worship teams acting so weird and political. I don't get it.... I know they are just people like everyone else, but I would have thought a church band should have LESS problems than a regular rock band. Personally I would hold the pastor to the same standards as any other band leader. If I'm offended enough, I'll leave without playing. Otherwise, I might choose to simply not play with him again, (and I'd let him know the reason if asked).

But most importantly it's against the rules of this forum.
Do they know that guitars come from the middle eastern region? Which means that, by their extreme kind of logic, any music involving guitar is middle eastern by origin, and by extension, 'heathen'? If I were you (if you're not getting paid to play) I would do what I want. And do my best at it.
