When somebody calls bass players "failed guitarists"...

This happened once at practice. I grabbed the guitard's instrument and then played part of a song with the band. It only took about 40 seconds into the song, with "updated" and "upgraded" fills, to resolve that argument.

I've since left that band (other reasons), but that guitard still asks me if I want to rejoin. ;)

I am a somewhat failed guitarist. I couldn't get a decent gig with my guitar skills, the good jobs went to better players than me.

I switched to bass, got some chops and pocket going, and found myself suddenly in demand.

It was a win, win for me. I found playing marketable bass MUCH easier for me than marketable guitar, and I was getting paid an equal and very decent cut in working bands.

Well If it were a REAL disability it would NOT be humorous, it would be sad.
Conversely all guitar players are not not guitards, but
stupid is as stupid does.
And their plight is not usually humorous, while self inflicted it is more pathetic, and annoying.
If this TRUTH bothers you sir, well, that is just most unfortunate.

Guitarists are failed piano players.

They are also failures at every other instrument.

Many guitarists are failed guitar players.

Rock guitars are the last refuge of musical narcissists that crave attention but cannot do stand-up comedy.

Guitars became popular in North America when it was discovered you only needed three chords on it to make a song.

Many rock bands got started with three chord songs on guitar. Which was fine with the guitarist because he couldn't play anything else.

There are plenty of bass players who became bass players because they were the worst guitar player in their band, so it's a valid statement.
But, I'm not one of those bass players. ;)

I'm with you on this. Nobody has ever referred to me as a "failed guitarist" and I actually take offense when people use the word "guitard". I have several friends who have children with developmental disabilities and find the term offensive.

It seems that the only people who use the terms "failed guitarist" and "guitard" are TB members who are insecure about their own playing so they use these terms to somehow legitimize the fact that they play bass.

I started playing guitar and bass at the same time. My brother told me I had to pick one or the other so I was the rebel. I play a bass like a bass player and when in a band, I never pick up a guitar. I been kicked out of bands because of it. I watched a guitar player struggle with a song and after a lot of frustration I said "Let me show you that." "You play guitar?" Next thing I know, out the door I went.
