When somebody calls bass players "failed guitarists"...

I have played bass 11 years, I have played guitar 8. I am a failed guitarist because bass is what I am passionate about and when it comes to guitar I may practice 4 hours in one sitting but I never enjoy it I like I enjoy bass, it feels unnatural. I am not nearly half as good of a guitar player then I am a bass player. Just because you can play guitar doesnt mean you can play bass.

My standard response to anything that thimble-witted mouth breathers say or do is "Were you born stupid, or do you have to practice every day?" But, have to say that I've never heard 'failed guitarist', either. (I thought that was a drummer, anyway).

Never heard anyone in real life say that. Also have never heard anyone outside of a couple children here on TB use the word "guitard".
I was reading all the posts here before I said something just like you said. I think you said it better than I might have. I am never impressed when a fellow TBer badmouths people who play other instruments. Fat Steve, I am glad you beat me to the "guitard" thing.

I've been asked this by teenagers and people who never played music. I humor them both by explaining that it's easier to suck as a bassist and get work than as a guitarist, but playing well on any instrument is its own challenge.

Musicians I respect would only say something like this flipping $@&# to each other.
