Man! You are a true bass warrior. There was a couple times that I was glad I could play with a pick, and it had nothing to do with tone. It was at cold outdoor gigs. Between the cold strings and the cold air, my fingers were literally freezing up and making it harder to play fingerstyle. I switched to a pick and it made things easier. I find that the wrist doesn't freeze up as much as your fingers when it gets cold.
no pics...period.
I'm just saying, given the experiences I've had where I've been coerced and manipulated by other band members, is this a red flag?
they want pick?
play with a pick.
you play bass because thats what they want you to play, right? so play it how they want, unless your the bandleader. when they dont give input then you can decide.

It doesn't hurt to learn a new technique. It's better to have the skills and not use them than to not have the skills when you need them.
I guess, what i want to say is that using a pick injects a whole new energy and drive into an existing band.
How does "put aside your ego and play the ****ing music" sound to you? Imagine if everyone in the orchestra decided to interpret the sheets how they like.
Not analogous at all - Imagine if members of the orchestra told you to play cello with a pick on every song, and oh yeah said orchestra gig pays zero.
