Carbon fiber, and it weighs over 9 lbs, so I think it would probably take a zombie's head clean off in one swing and would have incredible durability. Also it would be perfectly playable afterwards.
Could get slippery after a while though.

You only need an imaginary guitar for imaginary creatures
Don't be naive. Of course zombies are real.

I'm a huge zombie fan, read a book called "The Zombie Survival Guide", and within a few days, I bought a 2 handed machete'. Basses will hide under the bed, me and the machete' will go zombie killin'.

...Which bass in your collection would you use to defend yourself?
why would i use my bass when i can use my large arsenal of firearms to shoot them?
You sir, fail in the ways of the ninja.
But seriously, in the event of a zombie uprising, firearms are nice but impractical for a number of reasons:
- They run out of ammo. Unless you are with the military, rescuing people, you are digging in waiting for the military, without a steady supply of ammo. We'll talk when you've been holed up in your makeshift fortress (you do have a makeshift fortress, right?) for several months. What are you gonna do, throw your glocks at them?
- They are loud and thus attract attention. Everytime you fire, you might as well put a huge neon sign over your head saying: "Brains! Get ur brains here!".
- They are nowhere near as awesome as a bass. They just aren't. Zombie apocalypse or not, you gotta look cool.
- A lot of people believe guns to be the best defense against zombies, so you're not only going to attract zombies, you're going to attract people. People who will eat your food and kill your puppies. Bad people.
Maybe even guitarists *shudder*
So. Yeah. I'd say go for a melee weapon.
