When this grows up, it wants to be a 6-string bass

That will be beautiful. For my tastes, I would have liked it at least equally well using the other end of the board. Also, I’ve never seen an Elric and not though the body shape was perfectly designed, so your “rough photoshop” raises no eyebrows here.

would love to see the finished bass!
I had the same thought about the other end. I think some of the 3D figuring along the edges makes me lean toward this side, but yeah,,, the other end would look cool too.

I was thinking more along these lines, but yeah, that’s about right.

In shopping for one, I was surprised that they are less available than I anticipated.

years ago, the carvin LB series was pretty much your only readily available choice in a reasonable budget.

it's certainly better now, but not nearly as common as i personally think it should be. i get that i'm likely the only member here who records all 4 voices to bach fugues, and similar types of projects regularly, but nonetheless for "what i do," 6 strings is a necessity.

Looks killer!!!

I have been consistent in my criticism of 6-string players who play their bass like a guitar…..View attachment 5175911

And FWIW, I personally play my 6-string bass in the same manner that I play my 4-string and 5-string basses; I provide the bottom end, and I lock in with the drummer. :)
