Double Bass When to consider upright?

I will have to find a weekend to make a run to that Bass Cellar place. That isn't a short trip for a weeknight for me.

I live between Hamilton and Cincinnati (in northern Hamilton County) and go to the Bass Cellar fairly often. It's not really that long of a drive. Call them first though to make sure someone will be there, as they don't have regular hours (by appointment as they say). Nick Lloyd, who does excellent work, is only a few minutes from the Bass Cellar. Nick typically has a much smaller inventory than the Bass Cellar, but would still be well worth checking out. You're not going to find a double bass (at least not a decent one) at any of the regular music stores around here. Feel free to PM me if I can be of any further help. I'd be glad to put you in contact with some teachers in this area, and you would also be welcome to play my bass sometime. (She doesn't mind being fondled at all.)

I've got one less kid in the same space, along with the dog, two cats, and a 20 gallon hermit crab tank.

The Bass lives in the bedroom, on her side facing the wall. I have to take over the kitchen or living room to practice.

I wish some of the bassists in Japan or other parts of Asia would chip in on the space-constraints issue. I've played a gig where the stage was so small...

Well, no, not really. But the stage had room for the fiddler and geetarist, c'est tout. If anybody wanted to go to the washroom I had to turn the bass sideways and lean against the jukebox.

There is another stage, albeit larger, where inevitably there's at least one band member that has to swing their instrument's neck out of the way of people going/coming on stage to bet in to/out of the bathroom.

What is it with always putting the washrooms behind the stage?

"Look mate, it's not the band up here that stinks, it's you and all the other patrons who can't hit the mark when you're standing behind us"

Meanwhile, back on topic, sort of...
Dog, two cats, two people, too much stuff and a 'spacious' 2bdrm 700sqf flat... My bass is the centerpiece of the living room. It takes up half of it, so it has to be...

I have two uprights stored behind the couch, on their side, opposite with necks pointing in. They fit quite nicely. My wife complains a lot more about the amp cabinets stacked in front of the fireplace.

I expect they will burn quite nicely in a cold Winter!!

I don't know if this has been mentioned, if it has please forgive me. You could always look into a David Gage Czech-ease bass. It has a smaller lower bout but is deep top to back, and plays like a 3/4 bass. You'd have an acoustic upright tone and feel with a smaller size.
