Ticketprices are wild in the US. Paid 75 Euro for current Dream Theater Tour here in Germany (ok, one year ago), but next month Porcupine Tree are playing an Open Air Gig in Bonn/Germany, Tickets are 72 Euros.

i might consider paying stupid ticket prices to see james brown one more time...with or without the date.
Your right. If my band was pulling in $2,800 a ticket, I might consider a better bass,
I'd rather pay a $5 cover charge and listen to a bar band do Pearl Jam covers…
There are so many amazing small venue local musicians out there (many hang out here) who do better covers than the original bands' versions of songs that it boggles the mind. I've had the pleasure to share a stage with some of them.
I don't need to spend $2800 to see anyone when I can go to several local establishments and wonder why the house band is so good and hasn't made it big yet and have just as good (probably better) time. All you house bands, weekend warriors, and part time grinders keep fighting the good fight. You guys and gals are killing it out there! I'd much rather hear your stuff and hang out and have a beer with you after your set than spend big $ to see millionaires play!

I will pay money to avoid seeing any people.
In 2018 I paid $325 after the Stub Hub fee for a ticket to see Radiohead at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA and it was worth it. That venue is big but intimate and I'll probably never get a chance to see a band like that in a venue like that again.
For some fun added history, I paid $75 in 2007 to see Daft Punk at that same venue. Easily one of the coolest and loudest shows I've ever seen.

For kicks, I just clicked on one of the Pearl Jam dates in Chicago and prices started at $162 with fees.
But point taken about up-close seats, you can spend a fortune.

For real.
My electric bill alone, is nearly $400. Four hundred dollars for electricity to use all the appliances I've purchased!! Lol. It's crazy, these days.
I'll pay just about anything for a great bass, without much complaint. It's an important part of my life, and when I'm shelling-out that much a month in a utility that I don't even think about, it kind of puts it into better perspective. People throw-around money for jet-skis, and other crap they may not really need. My priority is in quality instruments. I don't mind paying for great sound and craftsmanship.
I guess, I've just reached that age! Lol.

There's so much great music to be seen in small venues.....barely known acts.....I have almost completely lost interest in seeing a musical act in any venue that seats over 3K people, regardless of price.
Same, except that you'd have to pay me a lot more than $2800 to do so, and frankly, I'd pocket the money and stay in for the evening.

I recently purchased a used Fender Vintera Jazz in Inca Silver and a new Fender Mustang PJ in Firemist Gold. Both for just over $1700.00. I've added silver and gold to my portfolio. These purchases keep on giving.
I believe I saw them that year in the Los Angeles Coliseum. Was that their very first end all tour? I remember the fireworks at the end of the show were probably the best I have ever seen.
Is that Ticketmaster's surge pricing? Nosebleed seats are like $371, $299 for the ticket and $72 in fees. I'll watch it when it hits streaming. I don't think I could name a song they've come out with since "Ten".
