And to think I (reluctantly) passed on seeing McCartney at the Denver Pepsi Center back in the day 'cos I couldn't see paying $300+ @ for decent seats. That's peanuts nowadays.

In a way, I'm almost glad there are no big music venues where I live now...

I've met the guys in Pearl Jam; introduced through mutual friends. Completely coincidentally, I met my ex a few years later and one of her old friends was Vedder's PA. She stayed at Vedder's place in Seattle with friends one time when we were a couple.

I could have seen them play but never did. The band's music never interested me.

The only times I've had concert tickets that cost more than $200 they were for Iggy Pop in 2016 at the Hollywood Bowl with the Homme/Post Pop Depression band, and Brian Wilson doing Pet Sounds, stuff from Smile, etc at UCLA. He and Al Jardine played together that night for the first time in decades. I paid about $150 for a VIP ticket to see Sunn O))) do their sound check with a Q & A, then the main event, in a relatively small venue.

IMO, in the vast majority of cases, excluding the very rarest exceptions, once the price per ticket goes up beyond $50, returns diminish at accelerating rate that seems close to exponential.

I saw Pearl Jam a few years back; they'd turned into old folks doing tributes to their friends who'd passed away or moved on.
Fortunately I went free,as a mate had a spare ticket; however, it was at the O2, which is not a great place to get to/from.

Fair point. I was considering paying £500 for an upcoming Sting concert and decided it would be easier and cheaper to become the world's best bass player and get him to hire me. Turns out that's quite tricky too.

My way of putting the price of an "expensive" bass acquisition into perspective is to sort the list of bass guitars on the web page of my favourite online music shop by price descending.

I did that yesterday after buying my most expensive bass so far, a used Fender American Original 60s Jazz Bass for 1649 Euro. The priciest bass at Thomann was exactly 10 times that, a Fodera Monarch 6 Tony Grey at 16,490 Euro.

Agreed. I can usually come up with a long list of things I'd rather do with that money (like buy another bass).

My sis just paid $550 for a U2 ticket for their upcoming Vegas residency. And she still has to fly out there and pay for hotel/food/etc. I just don't get it.

*FWIW, I play some pretty nice basses... a few of them exceed the cost of posted Pearl Jam tickets. But I get to keep playing them...
