Plays and sounds as good as it looks!!sheez reeel purty, eh?
Dingwall?
Yes Dingwall.
The model I was referring to is the trb 4 ii, which is from the 90's, made in Japan. Very solid bass, but you'd have to hunt one down.Which ones specifically?
The x504 and x304 are listed as 34" scale (Sweetwater). As are the x174 and x204 . . .
Is it an older, or discontinued model? (Is it a TRB1004?)
Most Roscoes are 35" - it is their standard IIRC.
OK - 34" is the standard so thanks for the correction.Roscoe 4 strings are 34".
I love the feel of a long scale bass. My 5 string is 35" and plays fantastic. I would like to get another 4 string, but every one I've looked at is always 34" or less. Who makes a 4 string with the scale length of a 5 string? Is there a reason 4 strings are shorter, is it functional or just tradition?
I'm not certain that either assumption made here is correct. There obviously is demand, as evidenced by the OP, myself, and many others who have offered suggestions on basses they already own. As far as most 5 strings being 34" or less -- I have no idea how to prove this empirically, but I don't think that is an accurate statement either.
My Ibanez SR1000 Prestige is 35".

I've never weighed it. Feels light to me (Mahogany - Walnut). I'm guessing it's lighter than my 4001 Ric (<8 lbs). Those Maples had a nice flame though.I used to have one of those. Liked it a lot. Very heavy though. Maple
I thought the original L9's were 34.5".My Gibson G3 is a 35" scale length, and I think all of the basses in that line (Grabbers and Rippers) were 35, despite the reissues for them being 34". I've been looking for a replacement neck for mine since its starting to warp and twist all to heck![]()
I've been trying to research 35" 4 strings over the past couple of days. I was aware of some Spectors (Euro) being 35", but what else?
I happen to have identical Schector Custom-4 and Custom-5...the 4 is 34" and the 5 is 35". I know part of the 5 string preference is to raise B string tension. I prefer a higher tension so have been looking to get a 35" 4 string bass. Spector is on my list, but not a cheap way to get a test bass for a while. Fret for fret, the 1" scale difference is not a big deal to me in terms of left hand position.
Thanks for creating the thread, I was going to create one just like after doing a little more homework. Ideally I'd find a used bass in the $300-500 USD range to get, then decide on the Spector.
Nice. The invisible strings are outstanding. I was just looking at the EMG X for a jazz bass, you like these are compared to say, EMG-HZ?
