Double Bass Where are Ray Brown's Upright Basses??

Ok, I know it's a very random question, but I'm sitting here listening to some Ray Brown Trio music and was curious to know whatever happened to his basses??

And how about a lot of the other famous bassists that have passed??

Thought it might be a fun question to ask??

That's neat....
I collect autographs and other things and have always thought about where the musician's instruments went after they passed. SOme go to family, some to friends, some to museums, etc...
Just fun to ponder....

That's the bass shown in his method book, I believe. With the 'skeleton key' tuners... It was originally believed to be Italian, but now is thought to be English, if I'm not mistaken.

Ray's old Juzek is in the hands of a young bassist is South Surrey. He bought it from a retiring player in the San Diego Symphony when he was there studying with Turetzky and brought it home with him.

With a Lycon G string and Spiro Weichs it sounds great in David's hands!

That's quite a few sentences from Dave Longenecker's site. Those same recordings with Ray Brown playing (my dad was a huge fan of the Oscar Peterson Trio) were what made me want to take up bass. (Well, Paul McCartney came along at the right time, too.) I love the sound of that bass (and that Ella gave it to him is pretty cool as well).
