Thanks Frank. All of those are very cool. Never heard of any of them either. Cool new music!
Ok, this thread is awesome. Thank you!!
First, one thing to note. This thread bears witness to an incontestable fact: No thread on TB makes it past page two without a Rush or Entwistle reference. None. Not even this one. Truly amazing.
Second, I've been drawn da weerd since a wee lad in the early 80s. But for me, the weird never meant sinister like it does today. When I think weird I think of B-52s, Devo, Cocteau Twins, Tones on Tail, and the like. Pretty mainstream I guess. I was a huge Skinny Puppy fan in the 80s. Saw them live in a small venue at the University of Washington in 1985or6. Truly a gory set that sent a few off a bit queasy. We'd never seen anything like it. But that is as sinister as I got. Nowadays the weird seems synonymous with effed-up nightmare doom rape. Not my bag baby.
So my entry to this thread will roll some eyes, but I just absolutely adore Clinic.
Interesting- I don't see much in this thread that I would consider "sinister" at all, in fact mostly the opposite! There is definitely a lot of harsh experimental music out there, but most "sinister" music I hear is more kitschy than interesting or experimental
