I realize that pop music is often as much about image as anything else.

Wow, I remember seeing that SNL. Bowies' Lodger album ('79) was one of my favorite eras. Often overlooked, I think. Dennis Davis on drums and George Murray on bass were amazing together. Too bad he didn't tour it much. Thanks for that link to the SNL!

+1 to that SNL Bowie performance- definitely one of the top SNL acts I've seen! Love that puppet effect he uses in the last song- impeccable stage performance!
Here's 2:30 of Ian Curtis dancing. By all accounts this was not an act simply to be weird or angular or anything. Just the way he danced, even at parties and weddings before JD was even a thing. I never knew how to react to his moves other than a self-conscious grimace.
I really dig this playlist. The passion in this music, the spirit, truly is something to behold. There's plenty of weird in amongst it but not so much in the conventional sense. This is easy on the ear and the eye. Towards the end, one guy's playing a Martin travel guitar as if it's a serious guitar. And it works! That's pretty weird. Kinda magic. Enjoy the show… Weird out!
