Where do plug into?

i suck at bass but will never give up
I cant find any information on this cabinet. I have two of these and plug into the bottom 1/4" jack only. Question is, is this correct for using a single 810 cab? I have an Ampeg SVT Classic and a Marshall VBA400. The Ampeg is 8,4,and2 ohm capable. The Marshall is 4 or 2 only. If I plug into the Nutrex inputs, as shown in this photo, do I use both outputs from the amps and set the impedance to 2 ohms? It seems to me that the 4 top speakers and the 4 bottom speakers are 8 ohm loads each. Totalling 4 ohms for all 8. Except I still cant figure out what the heck all these stupid words mean!
Can someone please help me?

Without searching for the factory documentation, judging solely by what’s printed on the jack plate, you want to plug into the top jack only. That will run all drivers in the entire cabinet as a 4 ohm load to the amp.

Unless you want to run two amps, you don’t need stereo mode.

Speakon trumps 1/4” any day. You can make your own Speakon cables very easily, all you need is a (Posidrive) screwdriver and a wire stripper. Use genuine Neutrik connectors.

Edit: re-reading your post, it sounds like perhaps you do want to run stereo? Would be great if you can confirm. If so, then one amp goes to the top Speakon, and the other amp goes to either the middle Speakon or the bottom 1/4” (but Speakon still trumps 1/4”). In that case each amp would get an 8 ohm load.

I could not find a manual. If you just plug into the top jack the cab should be in mono. The language suggests that plugging into either of the bottoms jacks switches the cab to stereo mode. If you look closely it does appear that there are two types of speakON jacks used here....one is gray while the other is black.

Here is a switching speakON connector. I don't know if it is the one used in this cab, but it could be. The contacts are closed until a mating speakON plug is locked in. Invalid Link Removed

What my plan is, is to use one 810 in one output and a 115 from the other output of the Marshall. I assume my 115 would need to be 4ohm if I'm to use all the speakers in the 810. So this being said, I assume I plug into the top speakon with one cord and the other going to the 4ohm 115. Does this make any sense at all?

Mixing cabs is a total crap shoot. A 115 and 210 might have a decent chance of working well together. Pairing a 115 with an 810, IMHO, does not make sense. The sensitivity and power handling are likely to be too different. By all means try it...just be careful to avoid destroying the 115.

I'm sure you are absolutely correct. I'm just enjoying trying out new sounds, tones, amps, etc. I better keep it simple for now. If I connect the top speakon in the cabinet to my amp output jack, does it matter which output jack? I have 2 in the back of the amp. If it doesn't matter which output, do I put the impedance switch to 4 ohm?

I have uploaded the VBA400 manual for you. If you use one 4 ohm speaker set the switch to 4 ohms and use either speaker jack on the amp. The speaker out jacks on the amp are wired in parallel.

Thank you very much my friend! I got the amp new, however, it sat on the shelf for 3 or 4 years because no one in their right mind would buy a 400 watt tube amp! At any rate, it did not have a manual. I'm just happy to not be in my right mind because I love this amp!

Don't be too hard on yourself. I have four tube amps that are considered 400W or more. I plugged into VBA400 in a shop in Germany and thought it was a fine amp. You should enjoy it and consider yourself lucky.

Sounds like you’re on the right track. One amp, two cabinets. Running the 810 in mono means only using the top Speakon. By the way, I noticed from your photo that the top Speakon is actually a combo jack, meaning you can plug a 1/4” cable into the center of it. It’s still inferior from an engineering standpoint, but it will work as long as the amp is off when plugging/unplugging.

Also, ditto @Wasnex - adding a 115 to an 810 is nearly pointless. It’s one of the biggest mismatches conceivable, and if you try to force the 115 to perform like the 810, you will smoke the 115 permanently.

DANGER AND HEARTACHE DEAD AHEAD

stop

do not plug anything in until this mess is sorted

or you could easily BLOW UP BOTH AMPS.
I'm going the simple route.
Using one cab with the Marshall and plugging into the top speakon.
I will be sure to be on 4ohm impedance.
Do you concur?

Thanks for your input .

A great amount of thanks to ctmullins, wasnex, and the downunderwonder!
My eardrums were nice for a few years, but what the hell, who needs em now anyway?

IMHO, with great power comes great responsibility. It's fun to play loud when your ears are nice and fresh, but once the tinnitus starts, playing loud kinda sucks. I suggest using ear plugs and being satisfied with feeling your guts shaking and pants flapping ;).

I know.
I joke, that's all.
I take care of my hearing very well these days.
Should've started 30 years ago though.
