Where do you guys rehearse?

In my current project, the keyboardist owns a very nice professional recording studio, so we are spoiling ourselves practicing there! All the amenities, bathroom, kitchen, acoustics, equipment, etc.! We are very lucky

I currently rehearse in a practice space facility. It's not cheap, so we share it with another band and another kid. We recently took control primary control over the space so we have been making improvements to it. I put a lot of value into making a rehearsal space a comfortable and enjoyable place to practice. It should be noted that the other band is super cool and we are all very respectful to each other and each others' gear.

I've spent my fair share of time in parents' basements, including mine. I spent the better part of last year rehearsing in my then keyboardist parents' basement. At this point, I do feel somewhat weird about it, but if it's cool with them then it's cool with me. I think that it's important to show the utmost respect and consideration though; I EQ the bass down, am quiet coming and going, and always say thank you when I see them. I also try to keep the noodling to a minimum; no one upstairs wants to listen to musicians wanking off.

As far as the OP, I think it's kind of a bummer. My drummer shleps his drums every week to rehearsal and sets up a basic kit, despite there already being a kit there. I dunno, but I think I would keep at him. My only concern would be if it was very cold in that there barn- I hate playing when I'm cold!

Actually, sign me up as a member of the "I drink a few during rehersals" club. Certainly, having a beer or two, and stepping outside for a smoke break, is not preclusive of a professional practice. I went to far if my post made it sound like I believed that.

However, my post about drinking and smoking during rehersals assumed that OP's band was of legal age and that the "parents" would not have a problem with a bunch of legal age persons having a couple beers in their basement. I also assumed they would not have an issue with a smoker stepping outside to have a cigarette. That's still my assumption and remains so until the OP clarifies. I would be happy to modify my stance if it is revealed that the drummer's parents are some type of killjoys who would be shocked, offended, and outraged to see a person drink a beer or smoke a cigarette on their premises. If that is the case, yes maybe it is time to get out of there.

Now, of course if the OP is underage, and/or the "smoking" being refered to is the reef, then I have no sympathy for trying to change a rehersal venue to accomodate illegal actions.

Gotcha, and I agree.

And don't get me wrong, ive been in some drunk, or borderline drunk bandmember rehearsals and it was a complete waste of everyones time.

I built a "room" inside the garage, using acoustic blankets and with rubber soundproofing between the dry wall, insulation and framing (plus additional acoustic blankets). It knocked the 100db neighbors are calling the cops again dealie to a more or less manageable 55db the neighbors can live with it arrangement. My son and his 3 bands use that space--I get a spider-infested corner. Go figure.

We rehearse in a warehouse space, also used by a cat shelter. The place smells like billions of cats were compressed into a dense mass, then set on fire and the fire beaten out with still more cats.

But it's free, and we're barely audible outside the building.
