Where do you keep your bass stored?

I was told recently, NOT to lay my Bass down on it's back for any extended period of time....... Is this true ????
Right now, theyre all in their cases in my closet and have sat there for 6 months. Im in Iraq right now, so that's the logical place for them. When im home, they're proudly displayed on my wall.
When we remodeled our basement, I took an entire 20 foot wall and made it a long, deep closet - big enough to hold all of my gear - basses, guitars, amps, sound system, stands, sheet music, etc.
There is a long, wide shelf 5 feet off the ground that all my basses and guitars (except acoustic) are stacked on; adjustable shelfs mounted to the wall hold the mixer and power amp, and shelves in one end of the closet hold the mics. stuff.
A few hours of planning the storage closet has really paid off.

#1 & 2: Some of mine are kept in a closet in the recording studio that I built in my apartment's spare bedroom. Some of them are kept in the rehearsal space I rent in midtown.

I keep all my music gear in what I call our multi-purpose room, which is actually the dining room between the kitchen and living room. My computer is here, along with an old buffet we use for storage. My two basses are on stands, always at the ready. You never know when the urge to play is going to hit, which is often!
This place is set up to talk about basses, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Eventually we're going to run out of things to talk about.
I reckon this is relevant, because I've read a few times about people keeping vintage basses in bad storage conditions and having them break/fail in some way. Personally I'm prone to keeping mine leaning against a bookshelf for a few days, I guess I'm an optimist!
Rec Room on stands. during the cold months I rotate them into the bedroom which has a humidifier running in the evenings.

Well I've been keeping mine in my basement studio and I learned the hard way not to do that, as I had a flood last weekend. Unfortunately, I own too much equipment and no room in my house in any other room. The basses appear to be okay, but other stuff is ruined. I'm trying to come up with options right now, like building a riser for my basses/amps and further water-proofing the room, but the moral of the story here is DON'T keep your stuff in a basement if you can avoid it!

2 of them are under my bed in hardshell cases.
3 of them are in the closet in hardshell cases.

2 of them are disassembled, going through the refinish/modification process.
I also have 4 guitars (in hardshell cases) that take up the rest of my tiny closet space. Very little room for clothes in there.

I voted "other". My basses are on stands and I am getting a 5 or 7 position stand to save room. Shortly I will have cases for all of them so the stand may change, but not likely. Out of sight ends up being out of mind and that means a bass won't get played.
Though if/when I get into the 2000 dollar + range, those may sit in cases or a display case. I was thinking of a gun safe type thing for when I am away on trips to keep the high end gang safe....or the safe deposit box at the bank? I dunno...

I have a multi-stand in my room with my basses on it next to my amp, guitars and banjo stand in the corner, all the gig-bags/Hard cases are just in a pile.
I don't put anything away, I like to be able to pick it straight up on impluse and start playing.
