Where is my jazz bass from?

I bought a jazz bass used from a guy who claims it is MIJ but it doesn't have a matching serial number on the fender website. It has a mysterious 8 hole pickguard that makes it impossible for me to replace, which bothers me. The serial number is 0309008. This is stressing me out because I don't know what type of upgrades to buy because I don't know what type of Jazz bass it is!! help!!

That headstock looks a little strange to me, just a gut feeling. I'd be interested to see who can identify this.

It doesn't have a registered mark after the Fender name. Looks like a fake to me. I hope you didn't pay too much.

The paint on the body looks totally wrong for any Fender I have ever seen.

I actually see the registered symbol, it's just really light.

I still would have to agree that it looks fishy, especially because of the PG shape and number of holes.

Do you have any more pics? Preferably some close-ups of the headstock (front & back), shots of the tuners (front & back), parts, etc.?

8-hole pickguard... hmmm... probably a 62 RI. They had reissues in the 80s and 90s.

Now, you say "claims to be MIJ". Does it say "Made in Japan" at all?

If you've got recourse with the seller I would take it.

Comparing the two, I'd definitely say it's a fake. Though, the "Registered" mark is after the "Fender" it's not in the right place, and there's nothing after "Jazz Bass". That sucks.
