Where is your hearing loss cutoff?

I've had my hearing tested. At about 2KHZ, my hearing drops rapidly to about 50%. I'm planning to get hearing aids next year. I am generally OK on conversations, but in a noisy restaurant or an area with white noise, I probably miss half of any conversation that's not at a better than minimal level.

I couldn't hear much over 10khz, my worst ear stopped at 9khz, the frequency button acted like a stereo pan to the right at 9 khz, and a fade out at 10-11ish. I have some hearing aids I use in restaurants and crowded places but nowhere else yet.

I'm pushing 60. My mom at 80ish can't hold a conversation without hearing aids, but she can still play piano in a quartet without them, just don't try to tell her she missed a repeat.

I've got nothing above 3k. This has been confirmed with testing by audiologists. Playing in bands hasn't helped, but it's mostly due to a series of bad ear infections when I was a kid.

I also have bad tinnitus at that frequency, particularly in my right ear. Tinnitus sucks. Take care of your hearing.

Trouble with internet testing is people with good headphones hear better.
There's nothing though that says you have to hear perfectly to enjoy the music.

There are other ways Doctors can test hearing.
Just like for baby's, they can put a mic in the ear and listen for echos.
And they can put a probe on your head and check that signals are actually getting to your brain.
And Doctors of course can diagnose conditions and decease and sometimes prevent it from getting worst.
Don't wait if you think something is wrong, go see a modern science based doctor.

All I used was my Bose Wave radio amp and speakers, it started to drop off at about 80 hz until it became completely inaudible at about 50 hz, I say "it" dropped off because I know it's the speakers not my hearing, at the upper end I only heard to about 10.5K, don't know if that's the radio speakers or my hearing although it's probably my hearing as I would imagine those speakers could go higher than 10.5K.

20 Hz on the low end (can't as much "hear" it as feel it). At 12,378 it starts blends with my tinnitus, and above 14400 it's just completely gone.

I spent 29 years in the Air Force which much of that time working on the flight line as a gunner on AC-130 Spectre Gunships. All that's taken a big toll on my hearing inspite of wearing ear protection. A quiet room sounds like the high pitched whine of F-15s engines running.

I recently saw an article CBS Sunday Morning show and they were saying that we'll soon see positive changes in what's available for hearing aids. The technology is getting much better and the laws have become less restrictive and will allow non-medical companies to sell hearing aids such as Bose and other audio manufacturers. In addition you won't need a subscription just to buy a hearing aid and the prices should become more reasonable.

Not 48k, he said 4800, which is 4.8k.

I am a 70 year old rock and roller and mine cuts out around 4K. That makes it easy to buy stereo equipment, they all sound the same.

Depends if you have musical hearing or absolut musical hearing ! I have musical hearing, but never noticed any problems in listening music or playing the instrument.

If you want to make a bunch of teenagers apoplectic, just crank this up to over 19.5 khz and turn up the volume. True story: I had some students "testing my hearing" in class by whispering a naughty word over and over, a little louder each time, so see when I noticed. When I finally caught them at it, I "tested" their hearing with 20khz, gradually turning up the volume. After they had covered their ears and objected, I told them we were all done with "hearing tests" for the year.
