Where to buy basses in New Jersey?

Sorry if i've been posting a lot, and also sorry if this is in the wrong place, but ive got a question. I live in south jersey, right near Philly, and have been trying to find a place other than Guitar Center and Sam Ash to look for basses. Are there any places with a somewhat wide variety of basses around there?

Exactly the two places i was looking at, and exactly the two places my dad wont take me because theyre too far away... i would go in an instant if i could (though bass specialties seems to have high prices

Same thing, too far away. I would buy online, but then id have to deal with shipping. Also, before you mention craigslist or buying used somewhere, my dad doesn't trust them, so theyre out...

High end basses for high end prices... they don't seem above normal.

but depending on location bought from you won't pay sales tax... shipping on instruments and amps from reputable places is fairly reasonable.

common thought and some times warranted. craigslist can be outright scary at times

Good luck with your hunting... maybe find something else near those 2 stores you can get your father to take you to and incorporate it into the trip.

Fair arguments, but what im saying about the high prices is that they just dont seem to compare with guitar centers prices. And my dad said we may go see his friend, who has a nice bass collection. I forget where it is, but i think its fairly close to a store with basses

One thing you can do with all 3 of these stores is work the "not to be undersold" angle especially with Sam Ash and the Guitar Center which are on the same parking lot within steps of each other. There's also Cintiolli's in Northeast Philly.

Most online shops will ship for free. Have you looked at Sweetwater? Free shipping, great prices (they'll destroy GC prices), and an awesome inspection process before they ship. If they don't like it, they don't send it out.

A "not to be undersold policy" is where the store will meet or beat their competitors price. 8th Street Music once was in center city Philly and they enjoyed a huge customer base because they had the Philadelphia Orchestra musicians as faithful clientele. The bldg they were located in was small hence the move. A phonecall wouldn't hurt to explore what basses they stock.

My suggestion would be to go to GC or Sam Ash, find a bass you like there, then buy it from Sweetwater. Their inventory is the same or better than both stores.

Sounds like you need to sweeten the deal for him..... wash his car and buy him lunch in exchange for a trip to see whats there?

New Jersey isnt THAT big...

Everybody keeps suggesting places that carry a boutique/high priced inventory. If he needs a ride from his dad to get to the store, I'm thinking that a $2000 bass isn't really in the cards just yet. Maybe I'm wrongly assuming?

OP, what is the budget you're trying to work with?

I 2nd the suggestion of going to GC and Sam Ash to try out whatever you can.

Don't show anything. At the Cherry Hill Mall go into GC, look at the bass selections, get a bass you like. Play it for 30~45 mins. Go to the salesman tell him you like it and ask if it comes with new strings and a set up. (most will be played by others while they were shopping) Ask the absolute lowest price he can go. Whatever he says thank him and tell him you and your dad are going for some food and will be back. Walk to Sam Ash, same scenario, play what you like for 30~45 mins. Ask what's the lowest they can go adding that GC quoted you $whatever. The markup in both stores allow them great leaway when making a sale. And don't forget to mention new strings and a setup.
