Where to settle after retirement?

Im planning Puerto Vallarta or some other place in that area of Mexico. Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador are great countries to. If I stay in the US I will move to South Padre Island TX, I already own a condo there

My wife and and I love SC and will probably retire there - either Charleston area or Myrtle Beach area (we like the beach). Charleston is a great city.

I lived in Charleston for a couple of stretches growing up (dad was career Navy). I graduated from the old Bishop England high school on Calhoun Street, class of '81. I passed through there on a motorcycle trip down to Key West in May of 2013, my first time back there since the mid-1980s. It looked exactly the same. It's an attractive city. Too hot and humid for me live there in retirement I think.

My wife and I have recruited several people to move to Durham, NC. Awesome community on so many levels. The metropolitan area consists of three smallish cities (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill) and there are many smaller towns within a short drive of those three cities. It gets a little hot around this time of year, but otherwise, I haven't complained about where I live since I moved here. (I lived in Chicago from 1993-98)

Lots around Kentucky that are beautiful, inexpensive, and not far from major hubs (Louisville, Northern Kentucky/Cincy, Bowling Green/Nashville).

I'm hoping we stay right where we are. I like our house, I like the neighborhood, I like the climate, and I like the city. Yeah, it's a little damp sometimes, but I can live with damp.

That is how I feel. I have traveled all over the world and never found a place I would rather live. Besides, I have all my friends and roots here. Moving to a new area would be like starting over again.
