Double Bass where to shop EUBs in NYC

I'm headed to the Apple to audition basses of all flavors - can anyone steer me towards a few shops or even a neighborhood (y'know, like the EUB district?) that carry a selection? Looking for the Eminence, NB, BSX, whatever...

You might want to give Bill Merchant a call. He is in the city at his 29th street location on Tuesdays and Thursdays. His vertical bass is quite interesting. I was shown the newest model yesterday and it has a swiveling neck that can fold into the bass in a second!

I've had my Vertical Bass for quite a few years now and I still find it to be the most "uprighty' of all the EUBs I've tried. It's pretty much indestructible as well, having survived a bunch of touring, getting dropped a couple of times, and a bit of amateur lutherie by its owner. I currently run Obligatos and a Full Circle on it, and always get compliments on how good it sounds. "Alive and Lickin'", by Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks was recorded live and has me on Vbass on all but one or two tracks. Check it out.

+1 Here.I've dragged mine through 15 different countries over the past 14 years and it has survived everything! And I definitely agree about the "uprighty" quality. I still use the original underwood and the Bartolini pickups it came with. I sometimes considered updating it, but it ain't broke, no sense in fixing it.

i was incorrect about the second-long deployment and folding. it takes around a minute. but stilll really awesome

Sam Ash had close to the full NS line when I was there on Saturday, 4 string, 5 string, bass cello, the various violins, etc..they also had the Yamaha silent stuff.

I don't do Gage, I am not special enough..

but the best price by far, and getting one still in a box, I called Bob Gollihur, and got great service.

Rudys I think still has some Kydds, maybe some others..14th st GC has a NS 4 and the Wav's

new Merchant is $3,200. i just emailed him. he said he occasionally has a used, earlier generation from when guys trade up.
