Where would you stick this? (twss)

Okay, so I am finally at a place where I feel like I have pretty much every pedal or sound available that I could need. But, I wonder if I have them in the optimal order.

This is what I'm currently doing with them and the signal path. It's stereo from the Aftershock on and I have been doing a lot of stereo recording. Live, I am running mono:

  1. Tuner
  2. Sonuus Wahoo
  3. TC Electronic Spectracomp
  4. EHX Key9
  5. Source Audio Aftershock (external switch to either stack channels or switch channels depending on patch)
  6. Source Audio Vertigo (external tap tempo)
  7. Source Audio Nemesis (external switch currently set as preset select, but I'll probably reconfigure as a self-oscillator)
  8. TC Electronic Viscous Vibe
  9. H9 #1 (external tap tempo)
  10. H9 #2 (Source Audio Dual Expression pedal)
  11. TC Electronic Ditto X2

Part of me feels like I need to move one of the H9s to the beginning of the stereo path or even earlier in the chain (in front of the Key9 so I can use an octave up and not need to rebuy a SubnUp,for example). But, if I did that, I couldn't easily hook up the Neuro app input into the Aftershock.

So, what would you change in my current configuration?

It's a matter of stylistic preference, but I'd put the comp after the Aftershock, as I like to have my drive be more touch sensitive...but that's me. And if you're using heavy distortion or fuzz, won't make much difference.

I was going to say use pre/post routing on one or both of the H9s until I saw you were actually running stereo. In any case, BOTH H9s at the end doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

^ What he said - use one of those H9's with the routing options in mono so you can reposition as you need per preset (I believe?). There is noting at all wrong with having one H9 that can swap between being ahead of the Key9 and on only one side of your stereo chain. This can actually open up your sound stage in stereo when used with the right effects - yes different effects on the left and right channels.

You could use the pitch algos like you said, or feed a delay into your dirt, have a filter there, vibrato lots of different options. Then you could use some verbs or different delay times, modulation delays to open up the sound stage. It can be amazing to hear what an EQ to one side can do to the perceived bass placement.

(Of course there can be really horrible outcomes too, so experiment on your own to build confidence in a jam.)

I have considered moving the Aftershock to first in the chain after the tuner so I could send different drives to the Wahoo. It has built in drive, but why have one drive when you can have 50?

Well, I was originally thinking I'd use the first H9 for modulation based algorithms and the second one for reverb/delay. Maybe I'll put the first H9 in front of the Key9, go out from the Key9 to input 1 on the Vertigo and go out from The second output on the H9 directly to input two on the Vertigo. I don't think I'd have many scenarios while recording that I'd need both the Key9 active and need both H9s in stereo.

Hmmm...
