Where'd you get your Funk from?

Have you heard whole albums...or just radio hits?

From these artists, mostly hits.

If you think about it, there are very few bands that are purely funk. If I call a band a "funk band," it usually doesn't mean they're exclusively funk. It means they do funk often, and very well.

So a lot of bands and artists, especially a lot of '70s bands and artists (Stevie Wonder, EWF, AWB, Herbie Hancock, Billy Preston, etc.), would qualify.

Thanks to FilterFunk, I have been reading an old Downbeat from 1977. One of the Record Reviews is for Eddie Henderson's Heritage...the reviewer (a Jazz critic) slammed it. I have it...so I played the 1st track.

Norman Whitfield was their guy...and he was pretty much coming outta his psychedelic Funk era at Motown.
