At least now, you can easily escape that beautiful but monotonous bass riff by
(a)changing the bass notes with the chord changes ("Hey, the bass player with Jackie's son is doing it"),
(b) adding lots of fills ("Just listen to James Jamerson's bass-line from a different song's version"),
(c) even mess up with the chord changes ("Have you heard the Dells' rendition and their chord changes of that song??? NO???").

P.S. I knew that name, Dell. I had a few Dell computers.

The tempo is NOT, repeat NOT 98 BPM, unless you’re counting at half speed and have a snare accent at every single off beat. It is DOUBLE that.

If you DO count it at half speed, 98 BPM, then the opening notes of the bass are indeed 16ths, not 8ths.

This thread is so full of errors it’s enough to drive you nuts!

One confusing thing is there are at least two versions floating around.

Here is another interesting thing.
While listening to the first measure in the "first" version of the bass line - without any embellishments - I got the impression that the bass player played that B note (the second one in Measure 1) on the A string. And that first D was, almost, hammered-on.
The bass-line from the second version (the busy one) was articulated differently.
It's only my opinion while listening slowly(very slowly.)

I tell you what, this one would turn ANYONE around the first few times that you heard it.

"There's the one ... no wait, it's ... uh ... oh jeez ..."

Great song! But it starts right on the one the very first note of the song. Then the vocals come in on beat two eight bars later.

As for the Jacky Wilson song someone got it right already in post #2 and #19. Starts on beat two.
