Wheres the Phaser talk people??!?!

Yo peeps

Whats the word with Phaser talk?

Since the new Subdecay Q-DLX and Empress Phaser's came out I've noticed a marked lack of phaser talk from the connoisseur's of phase town.
What's with that?

Are you all suddenly sorted with your phaser needs?
Have phasing effects gotten "old"?
Has actually playing your instrument taken priority over TB? (I hope so for your sake)

So what's the word Peeps - have these new pedals cured everyone GAS for different phasers.....why/why not?

I have a newer block MXR phase 90. I've done some mods to it, as suggested on the internet. I still find the volume boost to be too significant. I've considered other things, but have not moved.

This year I decided that my unending list of phasers I've gone through was because I actually wanted a univibe. So I'm rocking a BBE Soul Vibe now, and am finally satisfied. I've now sold off all of my phasers except the one built into my flanger hoax, and my old boss PH-3 (only because I need the step phaser to recreate a specific part in a song for gigs.)

The Flanger Hoax is amazing. It's the key to a lot of my synth tones.

I've been using the Source Audio phaser which has an abundance of cool phase tones available. I think however, I'll end up replacing it with the new SA Bass Envelope Filter Pro, which now has an LFO and three phaser settings that I can use for my phasing needs. Not quite as flexible as having a dedicated phaser, but flexible in other ways.

At some point I will try the Empress. I fear that a lot of its modes/settings won't really translate well to bass and I personally don't care for 2 stage phasers on bass. But I am a big fan of Empress in general and I'd like to check it out.

I HAVE used the Quasar Deluxe. Incredible depth of features and it has a wider range of straight phaser tones (from subtle to over the top) than any other phaser I've tried. Tap tempo, a rate knob that takes the sound well into the ring mod range and some super funky waveshapes as well. I especially dig the 4/6/8 stage switch.

RC is right about the EP-2 as well. It took me a long time to try it out because I figured it was just a few minor tweaks from the EP-1 but it's actually a pretty large improvement in a number of ways.

Personally though, I'm set with the Keeley Phaser. I did list it for sale just because I haven't found much use for phaser in what I'm currently doing, but then changed my mind. At some point I'll want a phaser again, and right now it is my favorite. Simple, great sounding 6 stage phaser with tap tempo and a cool ramp function. I'm set.

I LOVE phasers but it's taken me loads to find the holy grail. I've owned a few:

numerous MXR Phase 90s,
an MXR Phase 100,
an EVH Phase 90,
an Electro Harmonix Small Stone,
numerous Boss PH1rs,
a Boss Super Phaser PH-2,
a Digitech Hyper Phase
and an old Dod Stereo Phaser

...but none of them have lasted or 'done it' for me. I need more versatility, tweakability and variance in a phaser, otherwise it's just a one trick pony that I get tired of hearing and is too difficult or specific to implement...

So I'm therefore dead chuffed to have found my best to date: The new Hardwire SP-7 Stereo Phaser.

To me this pedal is perfect: it sounds really organic and natural. It can also do a really subtle watery phase and unlike some, even when set to extremes it never sounds 'synthetic', almost 'flanger like', or 'plasticky'. I know it's digital and therefore not supposed to sound as warm or detailed as an old analogue device, but it sure doesn't sound like it to me and as it also has a true bypass switching relay, I'm well happy at last!

Oh I'm sooo glad to hear that someone has finally tried this pedal! Please tell me - how's the Envelope on this phaser? I like my EHX XO Stereo Polyphase, but it's not quite "the sound" for me. I'm hoping the SP-7, especially the Envelope part, will end my search for a great phaser under $150.00. Other than the Polyphase, I've tried the SA Tri-Mod Phaser and the Pigtronix EP-1 w/ Marv Mod; neither was quite right, and I really want a phaser with the envelope option. I'm sure the EP-2 is a great pedal, but I don't like how it's voiced.

Never liked the Phase 100. Had an original many moons ago.

All my FX are built in to my amp.

One Phaser that absolutely killed was built into the old Peavey Artist Guitar amp -
Find an old one of those and get someone to chop that out as a stomper would be awesome.

I really only have a taste for very low speed phases, and I like to use it as a veiled effect on top of my tone.
I had a Pigtronix EP-2, it got unusable rather quickly for me (speed wise) and although an amazing product, had a very particular tone for what I was trying to use it for
I had an HBE Psilocybe, and I really liked it alot, but really only one two sounds to speak of
and the third bowl of porridge was JUUUUUUSSSSTTT RIGHHHHTT

my red witch deluxe moon phaser is exactly what I've been searching for, different phase tones that I can manipulate, and actually a descent range of low speed used.

I got it a third off on TGP, good time good times.

I'm working on a very different type of phaser as a summer project, If anybody would be into a unique Footpedal, PM me~

DNA Analogic Blue Lagoon
kinda rare MuTron BiPhase clone with its cool features - two separate phasers, that can be synchronized, expression control of sweep or rate (or sweep of one phaser and rate of another at the same moment!). it drops my volume though. but it completely changed my mind about how phaser sound.
i used to have Maxon PH350, good phaser but i expected more. Ibanez PT9 is very cool and not so expensive.

I've upgraded from no phaser to Nano Small Stone. Was planning to give the MXR block 90 a shot last week-end, but came home with a Neo Clone chorus instead. Interestingly enough, the Neo (which is always on and precedes the Stone in the chain) breathes some kind of new life into the Stone... it didn't react like that to the CEB-3. Fuller sound, to my ears. Will stick with it for now, but still planning to try out another one.... soon.
