Wheres the Phaser talk people??!?!

I have some phaser demos from the BOSS GT-10B on the GT-10B section of my site. Just the factory presets but gives you and idea of what it can do. It includes everything from 4/8/12 stage and bi-phase which is a really heavy effect.

The new BEF PRO also can now do "regular" phaser sounds. It has 3 phaser voices, and with the variety of LFO and other controls you can do all sorts of interesting stuff including.... SAMPLE AND HOLD phaser and 16-step sequencer phaser. I haven't gotten any really thick/heavy phaser sounds from it, but I also haven't spent a lot of time trying yet. I'll see if I can get some demos of the phaser possibilities from the BEF PRO.

There's a Toadworks Phantasm on my big board, wich I totally adore. Not only for its versatility, but I love its sound. It has a way to sound really thick (to my ears) without messing with the attack of the notes. Every other phaser I tried seems to lessen the impact of the notes played in a certain part of the wave.

Ever since I have a small board I have been on a quest for a smaller phaser that sounds like it, but no luck yet. I've tried the Small Stone, Phase 90, Baby Quasar, and I have an EBS dPhaser now. I think I like the EBS best, but still the problem with the attack.

Does anyone know what I might be looking for?

I'm going to sell my Pigtronix EP-2, so that I can get a Moog. I know I said that the Moog, while a good phaser, is a bit orthodox, but as soon as I found out that I could run a Moog Low Pass Filter, thus creating a 12-stage envelope bi-phaser, I knew I wanted one. I can get the LPF later on down the road, and, with the ClusterFlux coming my way, I'll have to. I think I might have just started to make a big mistake - not financially, as I know damn well that I'm a bit far down that road already, but, rather, practically. I have a Pedaltrain-1, and that barely fits my Moog Ring Modulator, so to run four Moog pedals, a Carbon Copy, Fatman AND a wah would be absolutely impossible.

Currently using the Earthquaker Devices Grand Orbiter. It does what I need it to do, and I really like the features on it. I just wish it wasn't so wet sounding. But I don't really have any plans to replace it soon, since I haven't come across anything that's made me want to replace it.

Yeah I had a look at the moog too - but the sheer size of it put me off. I do love how the moogs have all the expression options tho.... thats a definite plus.

BTW - Where's the on/off/bypass on that maestro? Am I missing something?

Couple of months late, but to answer your question, the whole thing is an on/off switch. You press down on the entire pedal.

I had one that I bought from Guitar Center, which didn't work. It gave me an insanely awesome tone boost, but the phasing part itself didn't work, so I took it back. I think bought the smaller version of it...

...thinking I'd get the same kind of tone. Alas, I did not. Eventually I'll sell it, perhaps when someone offers to make a Maestro Stage Phaser clone (one of these days...)

Maxon PH350 has been keeping me happy for the past three years. High quality phaser completely worth the $300+ pricetag. So many options, so many great settings. Whenever I become bored with phase sounds I just flip the 'stages' switch and reverse the feedback dial and redescover a new wonderful sound. One of my favorite settings is 'width' past 3o'clock and 'feedback' just shy of 3o'clock. The sweep swells up to a massive speaker blowing boom which is absolutely thunderous when played on a open 'E' string.

I've been considering another phaser for my second smaller board. Top choices would be the EBS DPhaser or the HBE Psilocybe. Really like the clips I've heard of the psilocybe and I like that it has a feedback/regen like the Maxon. As for the EBS, I like that it's small size and that it has switchable stages, but I'm not too sure I will like digital phasers because I've had negative reactions towards digital chorus pedals in the past.
In the ultra-small category; I'm curious to try the cute 'lil pink Malekko omnicron phaser. Phaser is a low priority effect for bass so it's hard justifing alot of pedalboard space to it, but any board could queeze one of these in.

I am enjoying my Source Audio Tri-Mod Phaser. I have been getting some interesting sound with it placed about the Bass Envelope Filter. By itself, I use some discrete settings, to add to the sound, but not make it obvious.

Great demo. Is this still in production ? If not, do you know which actual unit gets close to this ?

No, it is long out of production. I had to watch eBay for a few months before I got one. As for a pedal that comes close, look for a pedal that has 6 or more stage phasing, and if it were optical, even better. I know the Maxon PH-350 is optical and has a 6-stage mode, so you might want to start there. Also, I think Keeley and Diamond also made something similar. Other 6-stage phasers are the Moog, the Phase 100, among others, but I think those are not optical. Might be similar, though.
