Which amp?

Hello,

I'm about to buy amplification for my new Corvette $$. I haven't played since almost a decade and I'm lacking the last years development on the market. The specification looks like this...:

Minimum requirements:
-Should be loud enough in the rehearsal room with a loud rock band.
-Possibility to upgrade with more cabs.

Nice to have:
-Should be loud enough for small gigs without PA.
-Fairly portable.

My budget: €900/$1100/GBP620

I've looked at several Warwick (as I'm sold on that) options:

1. ProFet 5.1 + WCA 410 Pro
2. ProFet 5.1 + WCA 411 Pro
3. Sweet 25.1
4. CCL ND 8 1x15"
5. CCL ND 8 2x12"

Am I on the right track? Pros/cons? Other suggestions? All comments are highly appreciated!!

Well, in that price range, you have alot of options. It would help if you describe the sound you're looking for, or some of the recorded bass tones that you like. Even with this info, I don't think we can say, definitaly buy *this* amp, but we can recommend a few that would work well for you.

I'll try to narrow it down but it's gonna be hard, given the fact that I'm an old newb/amatur and widely flexible in terms of style.

The music we're playing in my new band is simple rock. The style is Foo Fighter, Pearl Jam'ish. However, as I'm an old Blues/Soul/funk player and I'd like the eqt' to be as flexible as possible. This could be arranged with effects.

My main question is if the eqt' I describe will stand the power.

It was a long time since I started this thread..... but here we go again...

In the end I went for a fairly economical solution and bought a GK Backline 210 combo. It delivers 180W at 8 ohms with the internal speakers. If I add an additional 8 ohm cab the impedance will go down to 4 ohm, which results in an amp output of 300W.

The additional cab I plan to buy is a GK backline 210 (200W).

Stupid question: Will that result in more volume?

GK backline 600 and some nice 2x12" cab.

if you want to have a single cab, then 2x12 is probably your best bet.

get a 4 ohm cab if you don't plan on having a stack.

have a look at fmc, basstown and the other german bass cab makers. they offer great value.

if you want to max out your 900 euros, then get yourself a cab made with eminence deltalites. or get the GK neo 212 straight away.

i'd probably look into a higher efficiency 2x12 instead, but if the 2x10 sound suits you, why not.

I'd stick to a GK cabinet to avoid possible phase issues (which will give you less volume).

A 1x15 is what comes to mind first. 2x10/1x15 is a delightful combo, in my experience.

I've also heard good things about the GK Neo 2x12, if it's in your budget it's probably a good investment in the long run.
