Which bands would suck without their bassist?

Mr. Levin is one of my favorites, also, but personally my favorite King Crimson albums had John Wetton on bass. I also liked the albums that had Greg Lake on bass as well, although I like Wetton's playing a lot better, and Trey Gunn is in there somewhere also, another big talent. So King Crimson is a band that actually has lost more GREAT bass players than most bands ever have!

DMB?

Look at his solo album. Nathan East (or someone who looks just like him!) backed up Dave live and on that record, and it just was a big time "Ehh" to me.

Stefan is truly gifted. I wish he'd come out with an instructional (not now, but like 10 years ago!) :D Out of every player I've ever heard, he's the most I strive to be like. Great tone, great feel and timing, and INTERESTING bass lines that never get old (pre-Everyday). The new album is so awful it's really, really disappointing. :(

Some, you surely mean most of his basslines! Ice, Ice Ba--I mean Under Pressure, Its A Kind of Magic, Another One Bites the Dust just to name a few. Think of those songs, whats the first thing you think of? Thats right, the bass groove. Deacon ftw.

The truth is I think that most of the better bands have people that are intertwined and the band is just not the same without one of them!

But off topic: What does ftw mean? Is there anywhere where old foreigners like me can get a list over all these abbrevations? I'm pretty lost at times ;)

+1, Justice was still good but a few of those songs were cliff's lines, and to live is to die was all done by cliff. Black album didn't suck IMO, but it was way, way different than anything they'd ever done, and, if you ask me, not as good as the first four anyway.
