Both of 'em suck, in my opinion. Not to offend anyone, buy Araya doesn't really do anything creative or original on the bass, and while he does some really cool screams, they can't save all of Slayer's songs from sounding the same. Besides, most of his vocals are just basically talking angrily. The only Slayer song I can tell apart from all the others - and the only one I even moderately like - is Raining Blood.
Blink 182 is terrible. The day they broke up was the best day of my life. If they get back together, I bet i'll cry.
No offense to anyone who likes Slayer. It's the band I can't stand; quite a few of their fans are actually cool. Same with Blink, but their fans-who-suck to fans-who-don't ratio is significantly higher.

Bela Fleck and the flecktones- No Wooten? That's just crazy talk!

Rush- No Geddy? Even with Neil. who's like the best drummer ever... No Geddy?

Trauma - They were on the verge of a record deal when cliff joined Metallica - I never could figure out why they never opened for metallica. they would have got recognition. I saw a video of Trauma with cliff, and heard an album without him. with cliff, it almost blew me away. without him... it didn't.

Maiden- Steve Harris, with his trebly fender, is the heart of maiden.

Dream Theater: john Myung is so graceful and chinese - they need him! they wouldn't suck without him, but they'd be definitely less amazing, even if they got Billy Sheehan (they're not funky enough for Wooten)

yeah both of those groups would be vastly different without a bassist... I was about to say the samething about Vida Blue...

...on a side-note, I was at a Wedding this last weekend for a bassist friend of mine. Oliver Wood (chris's brother) was there and sat in on guitar a few times... man, there is so much talent between those two it's just sick!

...Part of the reason that I got out of the financial industry, is due to stress, so I hear that loud and clear... Toob bad it had to clain the life of a fellow bassist.

Though I'm not big on their style of music, I really can't imagine Cannibal Corpse without Alex Webster.

There's a local band I've been getting into called Ripped Imprints and there is no way I can imagine them without their bassist Adam/BallChain. Not only with regards to his playing style & feel, but his overall look, attitude, and everything is just perfect for his band. It's like the happy combination of Oreos and milk.

Some great bands have survived after losing their original bassist-Stones, Kinks, Ramones, Metallica, etc.

Other bands are unimaginable without their bassist. I will list a few examples that come to my mind

The Who (the hell do they think they are calling themselves the Who sans Entwistle and Moon?).

Led Zep (Page/Plant...hahahaha).

Yes ("NO" without Chris Squire)

Which other bands would be irreparably damaged without their bassist?

Edit: I mean just for their playing, not for their singing or songwriting.
