I'm thinking of upgrading my rig and would like your opinions and suggestions on what might be a good set-up.
I play a Ric 4003. I'm not a techie bass player, I just know what sound I like and I'm not getting it with my current set-up. I play through a low-end rig - an Orange Terror Bass 400 and a Hartke 1 x 15 aluminium cone cab.
Previously I used a Fender Bassman 135 head through an unidentified 2 x 12 and the sound was perfect.
I was tempted to replace the Bassman with the modern equivalent but I've heard bad reports about reliability with fuses on the circuitboard burning out etc so I'm loath to spend £800 + on one and compromise reliability. I also want something relatively light weight as I use it week in week out for pub gigs.
Getting back to the sound I'm after, the band I play in is a New Wave / Punk covers band so the Ric is the ideal bass for that late '70's / early '80's sound....but what to play it through...?
