Which bassist should I study next?

remember, this guy is kinda a newbie, you wouldn't want to throw anything too insane his way.

I would say check out John Entwistle and Chris Squire - two totally different styles of playing. John is a very aggressive 'blues box' player while Chris is anything but.

John Paul Jones is another one.

No, I think it's worthy to study fieldy. He doesn't have to study him so he can emulate him, remember. It's still a worthy experience to study him if he decides that what he DOESN'T want to be like (and let's hope that's the case!).

Study any and everyone. Those who you don't like are just as important to listen to as those you like. Most importantly, though, you have to draw your OWN style from those influences (and non-influences alike). There are lots of great suggestions here.
