IMHO, I always thot White PG's look bad(nerdy) on dark basses/guitars like wearing white atheletic socks with cowboy boots & shorts :p I don't get tort PG either, someone here once said they look like raw ground beef, ew now its all i see! (sorry to ruin it if i did). Black=classy:)
Tort looks like salami to me. Great on sandwiches.
 
Dark bass, rosewood board, you've got your choice between something dark that compliments red or something light like white, pearl, parchment, etc.

The basses on this thread with a light/white PG look amazing to me. I tried tort on red once, hated it. I think black would pretty much turn it into a black bass in all but the best lighting.
