I've always wanted one like this ever since I was just starting out and a guy let me play his at a bass store. The feel and tone where just perfect to me. I still can't afford it at roughly $5,000 according to their site. Anyone know of a more cost effective (under $1,000) bass that is anything at all close?

you gotta take the uncustomized model as your pick, but keeping in mind that you can customize it later. so which one would you use as your base?

I voted Alembic. Ironically, except for 2 details, I literally just SAW my dream Alembic 2 weeks ago at G Guitars in NH, CT, before its new owner came in and picked it up. (lucky SOB, whoever he is!)
5 string Mark King Deluxe, Coco bolo top & back, Balance K Body shape, ebony neck lam, side LED's.
The only 2 details I would do differently would be 1) add continuous wood backplates and 2) regular Omega body cut instead of the "heart" omega.

I told the guy behind the counter that if I EVER win Powerball or Mega-Millions, he'll know what to order for me!

I know there are a lot of other top-notch bass makers out there, but for me, IMHO, Alembic is at the absolute pinnacle of custom bass making. I'm not trying to take shots at anyone else out there, its just my opinion!

sorry they should all be 5s, but if you play a 4, just assume they are all 4s.
