In 1986, I saved up from my after-school job and ordered that exact Jazz Bass Special in pewter. The one I ordered never arrived, so I ended up buying the black-on-black version instead. A lot have basses have come and gone in my collection, but the JBS is the one I'll take to my grave. It feels, sounds and plays as well as anything else I've ever owned.

  2. Raise the funds by selling unused stuff from your garage/shed. Win-Win.

You wouldn’t get much money from selling either anyway. So keep both.

If you have to choose one over the other, do you have any personal special memories / gigs / bands you played in / history with one more than the other? For what it’s worth, the 1985 Fender is my favorite of the two.

Jazz specials are nice, very playable and tonally versatile. I'd have to keep both if at all possible but if I could only have one it would be the Jazz special.

I've got a mid 80s JB special like that, but it's fretless and I put in EMG pups. If I had the two you have, I'd keep the special for the versatility. P bass is a one-trick pony. If that's what you want, that's what you want, of course.

Put the 58 pickup in the jazz bass special and keep it (assuming the pickup sounds better than the stock one - not a guarantee). Otherwise, put the original squier pickup back in, sell it, and sell the 58 pickup.

  11. The special for sure. Then again, I like basses with no pickguard, much cleaner and better looking in my opinion. Of course if one plays/sounds significantly better, that's the one to keep.

Do you record? Which records better, objectively?

Sorry to hear that you have to sell one...since you can't decide which one to sell...how about selling both of them and buying something that you know you rather have then either of them ?

Nope no recording just bedroom. I don’t gig anymore since the kids but that may change with time

But keep both if *at all* possible. I regret every guitar I’ve sold for one reason or another. Amps are far more replaceable.

Jazz Bass Special all the way. I have several. They are incredible instruments. You will regret selling it

I have a Aerodyn and Geddy Lee Signature Jazz basses and recently purchased a Player series P-bass. Would not part with them!!

  20. Cool.

Which one do you play the most?
Which one are you sentimentally attached to the most?
