Wire a 0.47 cap in line to the jack and see how much difference the fretboard material makes to tone.

After all these years, I'm finding myself surprised that the term "tonewood" is finally starting to irk me...

When it comes to solidbodies, I would agree wholly. The term Tonewood was never really meant for solidbody instruments, though, as is with most things, it gets carried over because it sounds knowledgable. Tonewood should refer almost exclusively to hollowbodied/mainly acoustic instruments, as this is where the real resonance and character of wood plays an effective role in sound.

Some would say this is just my opinion, so I'll state it as such so as not to continue the endless controversy.

if it is stable, hard enough for what its being used as, and fits the looks/color you are going for, use it!
