I cant recommend the American Special Jazz bass enough. Its my new #1. The neck is purrrfect. I shi+ u not.

I've tried about 5 Am Special Jazzes and have not found one I like. I know with Fender it's hit or miss sometimes, but I really want to get a Special. I, too love the neck, but I haven't found one that feels 'better' than a Squier or a MIM.
Guess I have to keep trying or get a MIJ.
To the OP: American Deluxe - I hear these are amazing, but they are active. Can't go wrong with Am Standard either.
Numbers don't lie. Play one first, but the Geddy Lee is a great bass. Until the price nearly doubled, it was THE best bang for your buck. I picked mine up on 2003 brand new on eBay. Haven't regretted it yet.
